Wow, check out this 12 minute interview with Enrique Peñalosa, past Mayor
of Bogota, Columbia.

Peñalosa changed the way Bogota treated its non-driving citizens by
restricting automobile use and instituting a bus rapid transit system
which now carries a 1/2 million residents daily. Among other improvements:
he widened and rebuilt sidewalks, created grand public spaces, and
implemented over one hundred miles of bicycle paths.

The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism
by Naomi Klein

In THE SHOCK DOCTRINE, Naomi Klein explodes the myth that the global free
market triumphed democratically. Exposing the thinking, the money trail
and the puppet strings behind the world-changing crises and wars of the
last four decades, The Shock Doctrine is the gripping story of how
America’s “free market” policies have come to dominate the world-- through
the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries.

THE PASSIONATE EYE
(Sunday September 30 at 10pm ET/PT on CBC Newsworld)
638 WAYS TO KILL CASTRO
Some claim that there are 50 ways to leave your lover, but how many ways
are there to kill off a political enemy? According to the former head of
Cuban Intelligence, Fabian Escalante, there are no less than 638.

638 Ways To Kill Castro is a political documentary exploring the history
of the relationship between the U.S. government and Cuba, told via the
countless attempts to kill Fidel Castro. From exploding cigars to femme
fatales; a radio station rigged with noxious gas to a poison syringe
posing as an innocuous ballpoint pen, those who tried to kill Castro
reveal every conceivable method of assassination.

PM Harper fails the test at the United Nations

On Monday Prime Minister Stephen Harper attended a high-level meeting on
climate change at the United Nations (UN) in New York, convened by
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Judging by his speech at the Thematic
Roundtable on the Role of Technology the Prime Minister is continuing to
present weak proposals on the international stage, thereby undermining
meaningful progress in climate change discussions.

Canadians Tell Harper:
Stand with EU, Not Bush on Climate Change

New Harris/Decima Poll: As Canada heads into critical international talks,
more than six out of ten Canadians want to see the federal government
aligned with European countries and other nations committed to
establishing further Kyoto-like targets and not with countries like the US
and Australia who want to break away from Kyoto-like targets.

Canada facing legal challenge for breaking federal global warming law

The Government of Canada is once again facing a legal challenge for
failing to take action on global warming -- this time for refusing to
respect a federal law that requires reductions in greenhouse gas
emissions. An Application for Judicial Review was filed with the Federal
Court seeking to force the Government to comply with the Kyoto Protocol
Implementation Act.
