Canada was pounded with criticism from every quarter at the UN climate
talks Monday as the summit host and Canadian provincial ministers joined
environmentalists, foreign negotiators and scientists in a chorus of
condemnation. The head of the UN Climate Change Agency went so far as to
call Canada a hypocrite. Canada is sabotaging the UN Climate negotiations.

A Town's Toxic Questions

The people of Fort Chipewyan, Alberta believe they are getting cancer at
an alarming rate, and hired their own expert to find out if their food is
toxic. We take you to a town that's living in fear - and ask the
provincial environment ministry what it's doing about it.

THE SECRET WORLD OF GARDENS

You don't have to go to the jungles of Madagascar to be dazzled by
exotic mating rituals and ferocious insect appetites. Just outside your
back door there exists a world full of heated passions, brutal violence
and other worldly beauty. Go out into your garden and pull back a leaf,
any leaf, and have a look at a world far stranger than any storyline
ever dreamed up on the 'X-Files'. Welcome to The Secret World of
Gardens - a place where the familiar is revealed to be strangely alien.

Mass Panhandle Action in the Underground "Path" System
WED, December 12, 2007
11:00 am
in the Parkette just West of the King and Bay intersection
INFO: 416-925-6939; <http://www.bettermail.ca/bm/www.ocap.ca>www.ocap.ca

OCAP will be taking people underground into the heart of the PATH system-
a network of underground malls and offices- to carry out a Mass Panhandle.
The temperature is dropping outside but beneath the financial district,
the food courts and fancy stores will be packed with shoppers on their
lunch breaks.

In a city where the police ticket panhandlers to the tune of thousands of
dollars a day, shelter beds are being closed down and social housing
demolished, OCAP is going to challenge the City's moves to drive homeless
people out of the downtown core by diving under the financial heart of the
City.

Inside the PATH system we will spread across the underground city and are
calling on all organizations and individuals to join us. There are
numerous ways to participate:

Come prepared to sit down and panhandle for money

- panhandle in the food courts and shops
- set up a "Salvation Army style" donation jar in the PATH
- bring an instrument or your talent and busk underground
- hand out leaflets explaining the action and our demands
- squeegee the windows of the shops and stores
- be creative and find your own way to participate

Donna Dilman, a grandmother, has been on a hunger strike for
two months to shut down Ontario's uranium mines.

Join the call for a moratorium on uranium mining and for respect for
Aboriginal land rights.

Issues include:

* Protecting future generations from nuclear waste
* Opposing mining of materials used in nuclear weapons production
* Promoting renewable energy and conservation over nuclear energy
(it turns out that 85% of Ontario's uranium is exported!)
* Opposition to environmental destruction caused by open-pit mining
* Solidarity with First Nations re: land rights at Sharbot Lake
* Ethical concerns for peace and social and environmental justice
