Hemp for Victory
-- a US gov't info fim made during WW11 touting the virtues of hemp. A
great film for the historical viewpoint in which it is made.

Henry Ford made a car fueled by industrial hemp seed oil in 1941 and in
the UK Ford is now reviving the concept. Plastics are a problem but what
to replace them with? Hemp is the obvious but overlooked solution due to a
decades long propaganda war waged by corporate interest groups.

Total Health '08
Slow: Beyond Organic

April 18, 19, 20, 2008
Metro Toronto Convention Centre
www.totalhealthshow.com

Panel Presentation: Slow Food Revolution

Saturday, 12:00 ˆ 2:00, Room 206

Vaccines: Successes and Failures

Saturday, 2:00 ˆ 3:00, Room 205 - Dr. Shiv Chopra

Smallpox was eradicated throughout the world in 1978, and since then, all
further vaccinations against this disease were discontinued. However,
except perhaps for polio, the same has not been true of various other
infectious diseases, such as rubella and mumps. Over the last 40 years,
millions of infants and school children are still being vaccinated with no
known endpoint in sight. Actually, the list of vaccines which are being
administered to young children and adults has been enlarged to include
many more viral and bacterial infections with little or no scientific
rationale. It is time to reassess public health value of the current
vaccination programs.

Fighting for Food Safety - Dr. Shiv Chopra

Sunday, 1:00 ˆ 2:00, Room 205

As a senior scientific advisor at Health Canada, Dr. Chopra opposed the
agricultural applications of hormones, antibiotics, slaughter refuse,
genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and pesticides/herbicides in
Canadian food production. The Canadian government continues to allow heavy
applications of these products. Their uses cause both economic loss to the
farmers and serious health impacts. Since they are not permitted in
food-producing animals in EU countries, countries like Canada, the US and
Mexico are not allowed to export these foods to the EU. Dr. Chopra
believes that the solution to all these problems is easy! Organically
raised food! Canada could be a lead country in the production of purely
organic food.

Dr. Chopra will describe how government corruption endangers the public
food supply and how the elected representatives in both Canada and USA are
more interested in protecting industrial profits and trade, instead of the
public‚s health. He will discuss products like Revalor-H, Baytril, Bovine
Growth Hormone, Silicon Breast Implants, and slaughterhouse waste, which
continues to cause the biggest problem to health safety ˆ Bovine
Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) or „mad-cow disease‰. Everybody who eats
should hear this lecture!

Not One More Dollar to Car Culture!
Every time another poor automaker comes begging for money our governments
cough it up. $17 million here, $200 million there. Then - "sorry, we
don't have money for transit or bicycle infrastructure." The auto
industry dominates our economy. It also destroys our our ability to live
and breathe on this planet. The government is supposed to protect the
public health. It's time our money stopped supporting the very thing that
is killing us, and was put to positive use. Let's put Ontario to work in
sectors that need working on.

Spread the word! See you in streets!

You Never Bike Alone - documentary screening

Time Wednesday April 23rd, 8 – 10pm
Venue 519 Church Street (Church and Wellesley), Toronto.
<http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=519+Church+Street&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=addr>
Admission By donation

Speakers include Anthony Humphreys of the Toronto Cyclists Union and Herb
van den Dool of the Community Bicycle Network.

You Never Bike Alone is a documentary that charts the history of
Vancouver's Critical Mass rides from the early “Tame the Lions” rides,
that
helped bring about better bike facilities on the Lions Gate Bridge, to the
wild spectacle of Vancouver's freak bike collective and the World Naked
Bike Ride in more recent times. As well as a humorous and entertaining
look at how city cyclists are mobilizing, You Never Bike Alone looks at
the implications of transportation decisions by politicians at municipal
and provincial levels and asks are we up to the challenge of making a
truly liveable city.
