We choose renewable energy, not nuclear!

We’ve got 2 months to encourage Energy Minister Smitherman’s
constituents to tell him to choose a 100% renewable energy path
rather than more expensive and risky nuclear reactors.

Can you help get the message out? There are several ways you can plug
into this urgent campaign:

- The Ontario Clean Air Alliance is hosting a volunteer orientation on:
Tues. Mar. 31st, 6 - 7:30 p.m. at 519 Church St. Community Centre.
Come learn more about the issue and how you can participate. We’re
doing door canvassing, leaflet blitzes, forums, theatre, and more -
and we need you!

- Please sign the online petition for a Nuclear Cost Responsibility
Act: http://www.ontariosgreenfuture.ca/petition.php

- Send a brief letter to Energy Minister Smitherman:
gsmitherman.mpp at liberal.ola.org

Thanks for your help and support…

"Get there while you can."

Three Wobblies for the first time in three decades!

This triple-header radical concert is going to send the Neo-Cons
scuttling back to the Bow River so fast their britches are gonna be
smokin'.

Friday April 3. From 8 pm - midnight. Doors open at 7 pm.
at the Steelworker's Hall (25 Cecil ST. in Toronto)
Tickets $20 sliding scale to $10.
LCBO. Additional surprise guest artists will play accompaniment.

If a liberal walks by the Steelworker's Hall on April 3rd, 2009 their
tiny shriveled little nuclear heart is gonna suffer an instant
thrombosis.

If a Knee-Dipper stumbles into this Wobbly den by mistake they're
gonna have a flashback to their mis-spent youth and go running naked
down Spadina Avenue searching for Emma Goldman's last hide-out.

But if some gen-you-wine non-sectarian radicals show up then they're
gonna have a foot-stomping, shit-kickin', beer-swillin', good time.

Featuring:

Anne Feeney, IWW singer from the U.S.
Utah Phillips called her the "best labour singer in North America."

Dr. Joey Only, IWW from Vancouver.
The best young punk-folk-country-outrageous Wobbly out there. He
recently drove across Canada and planted hundreds of white crosses on
the lawns of the riding offices of the major Conservative MPs to
represent the number of folks whose lives were saved by the Safe
Injection Site in Vancouver. (The Conservatives were trying to close
the place.) He planted those 850 crosses on the front walk of
Parliament and then sang his songs.

And Smokey Dymny from Toronto and points west. He's played picket
lines, anti-poverty events, environmental and peace rallies from
Newfoundland to Vancouver Island for 30 years now. He was arrested
after some of those shows. (He sings better, now) Seriously folks, he
was just trying to arrest Brian Mulroney. 3 times. Has at least 100
original songs.

This is the only gig in North America with three Wobblies playing at
once!
We will have unannounced local back-up musicians dropping out of
their other gigs early that night just to play along with us.

Questions? Contact: Smokey Dymny 416-534-2066 <smokeydymny at rogers.com>

Canada and NATO out of Afghanistan!
Worldwide demonstrations during the NATO Summit
Demonstrate on April 4, 2009

TORONTO RALLY & MARCH
Saturday, April 4 at 1:00pm
Yonge-Dundas Square
TTC: Dundas

Organized by the Toronto Coalition to Stop the War

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will mark its 60th
anniversary on April 4 and 5, 2009. At the same time, demonstrations
will take place all over the world calling for an end to NATO's war
in Afghanistan. The Canadian Peace Alliance and the Collectif Échec à
la guerre are calling for pan-Canadian demonstrations on April 4 to
demand an end to the NATO-led occupation that has already killed
thousands of Afghan civilians and threatens to bring war to the
entire region.

After more than seven years of occupation, there is still no end in
sight to the killing in Afghanistan. Following the advice of US
General David Petraeus, the new Obama administration has agreed to an
Iraq-style "surge" in Afghanistan. The plan is to send an additional
30,000 US troops. The US also wants to buy the support of Afghan
militias by arming and paying them to fight on the side of the NATO
occupation forces. There is widespread fear that such a move will
increase tensions between ethnic groups and further destabilize the
country.

In addition, the war in Afghanistan has already expanded into
Pakistan, with an increase in US-led strikes in the border areas. The
spread of war threatens to create massive social and political
instability in a nuclear-armed nation.

NATO is a relic of the Cold War. It has tried to reinvent itself in
the years since, and has now become a military alliance that
aggressively pursues the interests of its member countries,
principally the United States, in areas far beyond the North
Atlantic. In doing so, NATO is creating and stoking conflict. The
proposed expansion of NATO membership to the Ukraine and Georgia, and
NATO support for a "Missile Defense" plan in Eastern Europe, are
fuelling a new arms race‹and increasing the danger that Canada will
be involved in other NATO conflicts.

Even more worrying, NATO maintains its policy of pre-emptive first-
strike using nuclear weapons, a policy that encourages nuclear
proliferation, and heightens the prospect of nuclear war.

NATO members account for at least 75 per cent of global military
expenditures, allocating $1 trillion a year to military spending. In
Canada, both Liberal and Conservative governments have invoked "our
NATO commitment" in Afghanistan as justification for skyrocketing
military expenses, now earmarked at $490 billion over the next 20
years. Canada‹like other NATO members including the United Kingdom,
Germany, France, and Italy‹continues to support NATO's war in
Afghanistan against the people's will. On March 13, 2008‹just three
weeks before a NATO Summit‹Parliament voted to extend Canada's
mission in Afghanistan to July 2011. Polls showed that 58 per cent of
Canadians opposed the extension.

Real security and prosperity will only be possible in Afghanistan
when Western governments end their support for NATO's war. NATO
members must be accountable to their own populations, and not to NATO
generals.

Join us on April 4 to demand the withdrawal of Canadian troops from
Afghanistan, and an end to NATO's war.
