Livestock Emissions: Still Grossly Underestimated?

The environmental impact of animals raised for food has been vastly
underestimated and in fact accounts for at least half of all human-caused
greenhouse gases (GHGs), according to contributors to this month's World
Watch magazine. Robert Goodland and Jeff Anhang, co-authors of "Livestock
and Climate Change," found that livestock and their byproducts account for
at least 32.6 billion tons of carbon dioxide per year, or 51 percent of
annual worldwide GHG emissions.

To Cut Global Warming, Swedes Study Their Plates

In a groundbreaking move, Sweden has become the first country to label
carbon dioxide emissions associated with the production and processing of
food. This is a new and important initiative that helps consumers make
educated food choices from a climate change point of view. Farmer and
consumer education will be vital if this sort of labelling is to succeed.

Protesters disrupt question period

Around 200 young protesters chanted slogans to support Bill C-311, an NDP
private member's bill on climate change. Six people were reported to have
been detained.

Decision finds police at Montebello incited violence

More than two years after they posed as protestors at a demonstration
against the North American Leaders' Summit in Montebello, three Quebec
police officers were found to have "failed to respect the authority of the
law by inciting persons to violence."

Climate Change: What’s Suicide Got to Do With It?

Predictably, the growing debate about the connections of population growth
to climate change is growing ugly.
Obviously human beings, and no natural or non-human phenomenon, are
responsible for the dramatic rise in the concentration of heat-trapping
gases in the atmosphere since the industrial revolution began. And just as
obviously, the fact human population has grown well into the billions
since then has a lot to do with the magnitude of the subsequent buildup of

CBS Reveals that Swine Flu Cases Seriously Overestimated

A three-month-long investigation by CBS News, released earlier this week
that  included state-by-state test results, revealed some very different
facts. The CBS study found that H1N1 flu cases are NOT as prevalent as
feared. A CBS article even states:

"If you've been diagnosed "probable" or "presumed" 2009 H1N1 or "swine
flu" in recent months, you may be surprised to know this: odds are you
didn't have H1N1 flu. In fact, you probably didn't have flu at all.

FOURTH PERSON DIES IN SWEDEN FROM SWINE FLU JAB: NO END IN SIGHT

The news that a fourth person has died after taking the "swine flu" jab in
Sweden is focussing attention on the failure of the Swedish Medical
Products Agency (MPA) to halt the "swine flu" programme even as reports of
serious side effects flood in.

The Swedish drug regulator has allowed the "swine flu" jab campaign to be
launched even though there is no safety or efficacy data on the vaccine.

Foreign trials for vaccine highlight underfunding: Doctor

McGeer was responding to Health Canada's decision last week to approve the
H1N1 vaccine without evaluating its safety and effectiveness in a single
Canadian.

Instead, the federal drug regulator approved the pandemic flu shot based
on the results of a small clinical trial conducted in Belgium.

The study involved 130 healthy adults, who were inoculated with the same
version of Canada's vaccine, which is produced by GlaxoSmithKline under
the trade name Arepanrix.

The Pharmaceutical Industrial Complex: A Deadly Fairy Tale

It has been a particularly bad month for the pharmaceutical industrial
complex in its ongoing litigations in American courts. Among the main
pharmaceutical headlines, Merck’s Gardasil vaccine for HPV, now being
widely administered to pre-teens, was found to be linked to amyltrophic
lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease; following a
$1.4 billion fine in promoting one of its blockbuster drugs Zyprexa
off-label, deceptive correspondence was uncovered by Eli Lilly gaming the
system again by promoting another one of its drugs, Cymbalta, off-label
for fibromyalgia; AstraZeneca was fined $160 million for scamming the
Medicaid system in Kentucky after being fined $215 million for ripping off
Alabama; Glaxo lost a Pennsylvania trial for failing to warn doctors and
pregnant women of the dangers of its antidepressant drug Paxil related to
birth defects; and Pfizer scored a record-breaking fine of $2.3 billion
for illegally marketing several drugs over the years: Bextra, Zyvox,
Geodon and Lyrica. These kinds of charges, among the many others, have
become a habit for drug makers for the past dozen years.
