Afta Nafta: A new vision for North America
Organized by the Council of Canadians and Common Frontier

Monday, November 2, 7 - 9 p.m.
Metro Toronto Convention Centre, 255 Front St. West

Join us for an evening of critical tri-national debate on NAFTA and the
ongoing attempts to deepen and expand the failed free trade model while
ignoring civil society opposition in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Plans for deeper North American economic and security integration took a
hit with the death this year of the Security and Prosperity Partnership.
But powerful corporate and political lobbies continue to push the idea in
private or prohibitively expensive conferences.

The event is FREE.

WEBINAR - sponsored by Canadian Women's Health Network

The Push to Prescribe: women and Canadian drug policy

Wed. Nov. 4, 2009, 3-4 p.m. Eastern

Presented by Canadian Women’s Health Network

Drugs are produced, regulated, marketed, and used in ways that affect many
aspects of everyday life. The nature and extent of these effects, and
their special meaning for women, are at the core of the The Push to
Prescribe (Women’s Press, 2009). Editor Anne Rochon Ford and contributor
Colleen Fuller and Abby Lippman will present key issues from the book and
respond to questions from participants.
Colleen Fuller, co-founder of Pharma Watch, will discuss the reporting of
adverse drug reactions. She will examine what can happen after new drugs
have been approved and are in use in the real world (as opposed to the
restricted world of clinical trials).
Epidemiologist Abby Lippman will put drug trials on trial when she talks
about women and the testing of drugs. She will look at what information is
used in reviewing new drugs for approval decisions, expanding her
critique to question the context in which drug approvals occur and the
assumptions that are made.
The webinar is free of charge and open to the public. You will need a
computer with a high speed internet connection and speakers (or a headset)
to take part.

To register, please email info at cwhn.ca. Note that space is limited.

We welcome your questions for the presenters. Please send questions with
your registration request.

No More Band-Aids or Bail-Outs for the Rich

OCAP Meal and March on Financial District

As part of the Campaign for a Poverty Free Ontario Province-Wide Day of
Action

Thursday, November 5th, 1:30 pm
St. James Park (King St. East and Jarvis St.)

For years, they have been telling us no money exists for decent wages,
proper housing, childcare, education or health care and, certainly, no
money to ensure that poor people on assistance can pay the rent and eat
properly. Yet when the banks and corporations ask for help, public money
suddenly becomes available to them. Money that lines the pockets of CEO's
while thousands are laid off, forced in to precarious work, or living in
total poverty.

For poor people in Ontario, this economic crisis has rubbed salt in our
wounds. We've been living with too little for far too long.

We demand:
-Affordable and Accessible Housing: immediate increase to social housing
and access to proper shelter supports
-Decent Income: immediate increase to Social Assistance by 40%, immediate
increase to (Un)Employment Insurance and Minimum Wage
-Status for all immigrants and refugees: access to services without fear
-Justice For First Nations: stop economic warfare and recognize sovereignty
-Affordable and Accessible Education

INTRO TO RESTORATIVE CIRCLES FOR HANDLING CONFLICTS
led by Duke Duchscherer

Misunderstandings and conflict are an inevitable part of the
diversity of our lives. Yet most of us, individually and as groups,
often stumble in dealing with conflict and then are stuck with the
resulting pain and damaged relationships. The Restorative Circle (RC)
process offers a way for you and your family, group/organization, or
community to handle conflict safely and with much greater
satisfaction. Now you have a forum to dialogue with respect and
understanding, to reach practical agreements, and to repair
relationships.
Developed by Dominic Barter, Restorative Circles is a systemic
approach which has been nationally recognised in Brazil for effective
innovation in neighbourhoods, schools, and criminal justice.
Independent research confirms that over 90% of conflicts using RC has
been resolved to the satisfaction of those involved. This process is
being adopted in South and North America, the Middle East and Europe.
Join us to experience and practice its unique dialogue process.

Sat, Nov. 14 from 9:30am – 5:30pm Introduction to Restorative Circles
- PART 1

Sun. Nov. 15 from 10 am - 5 pm Introduction to Restorative Circles -
PART 2

Join us for Saturday Part 1 OR for the weekend - Parts 1 and 2
WE STRONGLY REQUEST THAT YOU REGISTER BY 5 pm on Fri. Oct 30 to help with
our planning.

Cost: There is no specific fee requested for you to take part.
