RESULTS Canada meeting

Thursday July 15th, 7:00 p.m. (newcomers encouraged to come at 6:30 p.m.
for an orientation)
Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) 252 Bloor Street West @
St. George Subway, Seminar Room 7-216
RSVP to elizabeth at results-resultats.ca

The hard work and passion of our volunteers was instrumental in seeing G8
commitments towards maternal and child health - $1.1 billion from Canada and
$7.3 billion and growing in commitments from other donors.
The details of fulfillment are important to firm up - exactly HOW Canada's
money would save lives was not yet articulated. We need to continue
championing the UNICEF-led "Catalytic Initiative to Save a Million Lives"
and the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria.
Join us to work on skills and actions we can all take to make this
happen...and hear about ways you can support our August 20th fundraiser!

RESULTS Canada is a not-for-profit organization committed to creating the
political will to end global poverty. They demonstrate that individuals do
make a difference by educating them about proven solutions to poverty and
empowering them to exercise their political influence.

THE EDIBLE CITY: WHERE IS FOOD ON THE ELECTION AGENDA?

Thursday, July 15, 7:45 - 10:00 a.m.
Metro Hall, 55 John Street

Why should food be seen as an issue in the lead-up to Ontario’s municipal
elections in October? One part of the answer can be found in a report to
be issued by the Martin Prosperity Institute (MPI). Kevin Stolarick will
address the plight of low-income Toronto residents living in areas devoid
of quality food stores known as “food deserts.” The MPI report echoes
findings raised earlier in this election series by Professor David
Hulchanski (Toronto Divided? Polarizing Trends that Could Split the City
Apart).

Speakers:
Dr. David McKeown, Medical Officer of Health, City of Toronto
Philippa Campsie, Principal, Hammersmith Communications and editor of
recent reports on food systems issued by the Metcalf Foundation
Kevin Stolarick, PhD., Director of Research, Martin Prosperity Institute
Alina Chatterjee, Director of Re-Development & Special Projects, Scadding
Court (tbc)
Wayne Roberts, former coordinator of the Toronto Food Policy Council
Registration Rates: Members, $32; Non-Members, $40
