Bruce Power pulls U.S. shipping application

Bruce Power has withdrawn its application to the United States Department of
Transportation for approval to ship 16 radioactive steam generators through
the Great Lakes.

Spokesman John Peevers says the company's shipment plan has been put on hold
— it is not cancelled — and Bruce Power's goal remains to ship the
decommissioned, school bus-sized vessels to a recycling plant in Sweden.

Germany’s Unlikely Champion Of a Radical Green Energy Path

The disaster at the Fukushima plant in Japan convinced German Chancellor
Angela Merkel that nuclear power would never again be a viable option for
her country. Now Merkel has embarked on the world’s most ambitious plan to
power an industrial economy on renewable sources of energy. And she is
anything but a left-wing greenie. The party she leads, the Christian
Democratic Union, is the political equivalent of the Republicans in the U.S.

NRC Changes Tune On Plant Safety

Critics of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission received fresh ammunition on
Thursday when the agency revealed that many of the nation's aging nuclear
power plants would be ill-equipped to withstand earthquakes and other
natural disasters.

UK households offered £10,000 to improve energy efficiency

Up to 14 million families will be able to apply for up to £10,000 each to
pay for energy-efficiency improvements on their properties. The money –
which will be paid back in energy savings over 20 years – is almost double
the previous figure of £6,500 outlined when the scheme was launched.

Ministers claim it will be biggest home-improvement programme in Britain
since the Second World War. It is the cornerstone of the Government's
attempts to reduce household emissions by 30 per cent by 2020.

Hudak in the dark on power

Toronto Star Editorial – Ontario’s Green Energy Act is one of those rare
government policies that promises to fundamentally shift how we do things
and produce benefits that go well beyond a four-year election term. If
implemented well, it will ensure that more of our energy needs are met from
renewable sources and create jobs in a burgeoning solar panel and wind
turbine manufacturing sector. Unfortunately, Progressive Conservative Leader
Tim Hudak wants to scrap it all before it’s had a chance to work.

Hudak urged to support green energy law – Program spurs job creation, say
local businesses

A group of Ottawa businesses specializing in renewable energy technology is
calling on Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudak to reconsider his
opposition to the McGuinty government's green energy law.

New Report Confirms that Switch to Renewables Is Feasible

It’s official: The world can easily make the switch to renewable energy if
it wants to. The Nobel Peace Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change has just released a report
<http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/may/09/ipcc-renewable-energy-pow
er-world> stating that energy from clean sources could account for
four-fifths of the global supply within a few decades—if governments show
the necessary will.
