"We do support Time of Use pricing, but we think the differential between
peak and off-peak should be increased," he said. "The cost of generating
power during on-peak is much, much higher than off -peak," he said. "We
believe we should have prices that tell the truth, and reflect that costs
are much higher at peak than at off-peak." He added that Time of Use pricing
doesn't increase the average price of electricity in Ontario, or lead to an
increase in rates on an annual basis. - Jack Gibbons

radiation monitoring here in Canada. Now evidence has emerged that the
radiation in Canada was worse than Canadian officials ever let on.

Plant? - Asked to calculate the damage resulting from a major “total
meltdown” accident at a nuclear reactor, researchers estimated it could cost
upwards of 6 trillion euros (or 9 trillion dollars), which is why no
insurance industry will touch the nuclear industry, and why the public is
left holding the bag.

Make It Safe. Shutting it down will. - by Gordon Edwards. The most useful
thing that we can do, as citizens, is to see that this dreadful problem of
radioactive wastes is not made any worse than it already is. Quebec can
close the door on nuclear power once and for all by not refurbishing the
Gentilly-2 reactor. Instead, it can concentrate on dealing in a responsible
way with the long term management of all the existing nuclear wastes, while
fostering a sustainable society based on energy efficiency and renewable
energy sources.

Archaeology of Nuclear Energy - Film screening and discussion with director
Volker Sattel
Friday, November 11, 6 pm, Innis Town Hall (2 Sussex Avenue), U of T,
Toronto
Filmed in several German nuclear power plants over a three-year period,
director Volker Sattel set out to show what goes on inside the walls of such
facilities. After a well-received debut at the Berlin Film Festival in
February 2011, the film had its theatrical release in Germany a matter of
weeks after the Fukushima disaster and played an important role in the
debates around Germany’s decision to scrap nuclear power by 2022.
