Ontario needs jobs and green energy. Tim Hudak disagrees. His Bill 42
will kill green energy in Ontario. This bill will come to a vote in the
legislature next week,
on Thur. March 22. MPPs need to hear your voice. Please send them an email
in
support of green energy.

Let them know that you want a future for Ontario. Below you will find a
support
letter you may use as your own or personalize if you wish

Don't be silent about our future. Please write your MPP now and ask them
defeat
Bill 42.

Sample Letter:

Re: Oppose Bill 42: An Act to amend the Electricity Act, 1998 and the
Environmental
Protection Act with respect to renewable energy.

Dear: ______ (MPP)

As my elected official I urge you to stand up for Ontario's green energy
sector and
vote against Bill 42, proposed by Tim Hudak of the Conservative Party.
As an involved Ontario citizen and stakeholder in our green economy, I can
attest to
the significant advances in the sector in recent years. We need to stay the
course
on the transition towards a green energy future. This transition is
essential for
meeting many social and environmental objectives, while having significant
economic
benefits too.
Fortunately, most Ontario citizens understand the need for and support green
energy
- for their homes, for their businesses, and in their communities. They
believe in
the impact that renewable energy is having on the province's job sector, and
recognize the role that it is playing for a cleaner, greener Ontario.
I ask you, as my representative in parliament, to show your support for
green energy
so that the province may continue to move forward into the future with
viable
sources of clean electricity and progressive legislation.
Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
 xxx

Rally to Oppose Bill 37! Save OSPCA's investigative powers!

Mon. March 19, noon
Queens Park

Join us in a rally to oppose the new Bill 37 to be introduced on Monday by
MPP Jack
(COWARD) McLaren (photo attached). This bill invites corruption, creates
situations
of conflict of interest, and, if passed, would fundamentally weaken the
investigative and enforcement powers of the OSPCA. Incredibly, abused
animals would
be at the mercy of the abuser and would be 'cared' for by veterinarian of
abuser's
choice (a conflict of interest), would not be allowed to be put up for
adoption, but
would be sent to auction most likely for slaughter, and the proceeds would
go to the
abuser -- sounds like the era of human slavery from centuries ago. Stop this
cowardly bill and its cowardly proponent: MPP Jack McLaren (PC party).
Ontario and
its animals deserve better.

(de)Occupy Talks: Big Oil, Tar Sands and 'Ethics'

Tuesday, March 20, 7 p.m.
Bloor Street United Church, 300 Bloor St. W

Tar sands extraction is one of the largest civil and environmental rights
issues of
this generation. The Harper regime, in alliance with the Alberta government
and the
largest oil companies in the world, have ignored First Nations rights,
broken global
agreements and decimated hundreds of kilometers of land in Northern Alberta.
Pipelines are expanding the impact to Southern Ontario, where tar sands
refining is
already happening in Sarnia, aka Chemical Valley. As well, Canada has
supported
companies and governments employing brutal military regimes to facilitate
mining and
oil & gas projects abroad. We ask the question, how is this 'ethical'?

Please join us to discuss the frontlines of struggle with esteemed community
organizers and intellectuals Eriel Deranger, Ron Plain, Isaac Asume Osuoka
and Syed
Hussan. The panel will be moderated by Anna Zalik.

Waterlife

Free screening and discussion. Narrated by Gord Downie, Waterlife is the
epic
journey of our water. Great Lakes water.

Tuesday, March 20, 6 pm
Annette Branch Library, 145 Annette St. (Keele subway stop; either walk N
on Keele,
or take the Keele bus N to Annette; then walk west 2 blocks )

Water's journey from streams entering Lake Superior to the mouth of the
Saint
Lawrence Seaway takes 350 years. The narration establishes the importance of
the
Great Lakes for the U.S. and Canada's fresh water. Then, for each of the
Great
Lakes, plus Lake St. Clair, the film focuses on specific environmental
problems:
lamprey eels in Lake Superior, heavy metals in Lake Michigan, zebra mussels
in Lake
Huron, petrochemical waste in Lake Erie, and toxic waste dumps near Lake
Ontario all
degrade human and animal health. What about tritium leakage from nuclear
facilities
into our Great Lakes? What are the effects of climate change? The film
argues that
governments and industry turn a blind eye to needed clean up and regulation,
putting
plants, fish, birds, and humans at risk.

Water on the Table

Sunday, March 25, 11 p.m.
On television, channel TVO

Water On The Table is a character-driven, social-issue documentary by Liz
Marshall
that explores Canada's relationship to its freshwater, arguably its most
precious
natural resource. The film asks the question: Is water a commercial good
like
running shoes or Coca-Cola? Or, is water a human right like air?

The main subject of the documentary is environmental and water-rights
activist Maude
Barlow. The film captures life on the road with Barlow in Canada and the
United
States over the course of a year. She leads an unrelenting schedule of
speaking
engagements and frontline community actions. From 2008 - 2009 Barlow served
as the
U.N. Senior Advisor on Water to Father Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann, President
of the
63rd Session of the United Nations.
