Filled with contradictions and shattering preconceived expectations, the film is a journey of a young Israeli filmmaker who befriends the group. Through the characters, the impacts of political policy and the pains of precarious work are lived. On another level, the film is about trans people rejected by their families who emigrate to care for other people's parents who have been rejected by their children in old age. There is much to explore through the Paper Dolls art, work and relationships. Followed by facilitated discussion.

In May 1914, the Komagata Maru, a ship carrying 376 immigrants from British India, was turned away when it tried to land in Vancouver harbour. Why would Canada turn away these South Asian migrants when it had accepted more than 400,000 immigrants the previous year? How do the events of 1914 relate to current immigration policy? Does Canadian law create “winners” and “losers” based on race and economic status? In this illustrated presentation Professor Kazimi is joined by Audrey Macklin, Professor of Law at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, to discuss these questions and their relevance to present and future Canadian Immigration policy. A Q&A and book signing will follow.

In 2013, the City will re-pave Bloor from Dundas W. to Ossington. Let's ensure they include safe bicycle passage, which would likely mean bike lanes. Bloor St. is one of Toronto's favoured bike routes because it is long, flat and has no streetcar tracks. But it also has one of the highest car/bike collision rates in the city. Peace Maker summer camp – with Canadian Voice of Women for Peace
Sunday, August 19 – Wednesday, August 22

Cost is $150.00 includes all meals and accommodations. ****Scholarships are available****
The camp is on Georgian Bay and there will be opportunities for swimming and boating. Musical instruments welcome – there will be time for celebrating together! (and films too). Our goal is to support young women (age 15-35) who wish to form a youth chapter of VOW in their community or campus. Preference will be given to applicants who anticipate staying involved. Participants may receive some additional funding support to participate in the VOW AGM and conference this fall, (in November) and/or to attend the United Nations session on women (put in the correct title please) next March. We invite young women from a diversity of backgrounds to apply. What matters most is their interest and enthusiasm for raising your voice for peace!

Festival Solidarity 2012
Alternatives in Montreal is hosting a solidarity festival June 9th that Common Frontiers is partaking in http://www.alternatives.ca/en/agenda/festival-solidarity-2012. Folks like Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois from CLASSE will be speaking any many more. It links Rio+20 and the struggles of the north and south.
I’m planning on providing free transport to take folks to Montreal for the festival as a solidarity caravan. The plan is to leave here on the 8thand return on the 10th. If anyone is interested please ask them to e-mail me at burbano at rogers.com
