Fracked gas is not the answer
Enbridge has applied to the OEB to expand its natural gas pipeline system in the GTA. Read more about it here: http://www.cleanairalliance.org/enbridge But we could lower our demand for natural gas by investing in conservation, thereby avoiding the cost of the new pipeline, as well as avoiding purchasing fracked gas from the US and increasing our GHG emissions.
If you think greater efficiency beats more pipelines hands down, send a message to Premier Wynne, Energy Minister Chiarelli and Environment Minister Bradley here. http://www.cleanairalliance.org/wynne_gas Tell them you prefer conservation over fracked gas from the U.S.

Cabinet passes endangered species decision, eNGOs see red
Enviros say the new exemptions “lower the standard of protection for endangered plants and animals across many industries, including forestry, pits and quarries, renewable energy, hydro, mining, infrastructure development, waste management, and commercial and residential development.” And that is not all: Nature Ontario, Sierra Club Canada, David Suzuki Foundation and Earthroots came together for a news release in which they said that the decision also “dramatically reduces government oversight of activities affecting Ontario’s lakes, rivers, forests and wildlife.”

Bicycle themed poster competition!
We are looking for imaginative poster designs that celebrate bike culture, which is basically whatever you take to be most significant about the art of cycling. Selected submissions will be exhibited at the closing party of the July 25th Art Spin tour where the winning poster will be chosen and awarded a $500 prize, as well as, being featured on both CBN’s and Art Spin’s websites. Deadline for submissions is Monday July, 15th.

Nation to Nation Bike Tour
The Nation to Nation Bike Tour gets rolling on July 27th and KAIROS Canada andThe Otesha Project are asking for your support to help make this challenging and exciting summer experience a success! For two and a half weeks, twelve Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth will cycle through south-eastern Ontario, from the Mohawk communities of Akwesasne to Tyendinaga, learning from each other and from host communities about what it means to live in right relations. Along the way, the youth will lead educational workshops and promote constructive dialogue on Indigenous rights, shared responsibilities, and the history of the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, including hosting theatrical presentations of the Blanket Exercise.

A lively historical tour of the psychiatric patient built wall at CAMH

This event is a guided theatrical walk/roll around the Historical Patient Built Wall on the grounds of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). During the 19th Century, walls were built and rebuilt around the grounds of the asylum by unpaid patient labourers. In 2010, memorial plaques dedicated to psychiatric patients' history were unveiled around this site. By including a lively dimension in the telling of this story, we embody the past in a way that empowers the present.

This workshop is designed to help you and your organization learn valuable steps, tools, techniques and approaches that will help you effectively plan and execute a winning campaign plan to help you achieve your policy goals. Participants will learn the basic components of a campaign, how to choose a strategic campaign goal, choosing strategies and tactics that suit your goals, working with individuals and groups to build influence, and understanding the key ingredients of successful campaigns. It's recommend that multiple people from one group attend the workshop as there will be ample time to strategize to achieve your goals.

Originally organized by the Free Fare Movement (MPL) in Sao Paulo against a planned 10 cent public transit fare hike. At its peak, over 1 million people in over 100 Brazilian cities took to the streets to protest. Who exactly are the protesters taking to the streets? What are the root grievances they want addressed? Why has Brazil erupted now? For critical insights join a public forum with four Brazilian activists who will share their perspectives about this exciting moment in Brazilian history.
