Joseph Boutilier has spent the the past four months unicycling through five Canadian provinces and three US states, talking to environment groups, politicians and dozens of media outlets with a mission to make climate change a priority issue in the 2015 federal election. Join ClimateFast organizers for an open potluck as they host Joseph Boutilier in Toronto on the last stretch of his 5,000km trek to Parliament Hill, where he’ll confront MPs on their climate policies and promises as the House of Commons resumes for the fall session. Boutilier will share photos, videos and experiences from the journey, followed by an open discussion on climate issues in Canada and building the political willpower for action in 2015 and beyond.

Walk to Save the David Dunlap Forest, a 125 acre forest in urbanized Richmond Hill, 44 acres of which is threatened by luxury housing development. Forest created to shelter David Dunlap Observatory where black holes were discovered, from light pollution and to protect Don watershed.  Forest is home to deer, coyotes and rare bird species. Walk begins at corner of Hillsview and Bayview, 8:30 am, August 28, with placards and signs to signal threats to forest. At 11 am we will proceed to Mel Lastman square. Walk recommences  Friday, August 29 at Mel Lastman Square at 9 am and proceeds to Queen's Park for rally at 1 p.m.. Join us!

Solidarity send-off for unicyclist Joseph Boutilier
Sat. Aug. 20, noon
Come ride in solidarity with Joseph on the final leg of his ride to Ottawa. This is the culmination of his 5000 km Ride for Climate Action from Victoria BC to Ottawa.
Joseph will be leaving Rouge Hill GO station around noon, and will unicycle along the Waterfront Trail to Oshawa. (If you want to take a GO train from Union station to Rouge Hill GO, with your bike, it’s a 30 min. trip; GO trains leave Union GO Station at 9:13am, 10:13am, 10:43am, and 11:13am, all of which get you there on time. One-way fare from Union GO station is $6.25.)

People traffic replaces car traffic, and the streets become“paved parks” where people of all ages, abilities,and social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds can come out and improve their health. A series of Activity Hubs will complement the recreational through-route and host pop-up, interactive, participatory programming generated by volunteers.
