Secret deal on Alberta’s oilsands emissions limits divides patch

Secret deal between 4 enviro groups and 4 tarsands companies to limit
emissions. Well, actually limit them to 100 megatonnes / year, UP from 70
today. Notley hopes this will curb opposition to pipelines. Somehow I doubt
it. It's still an expansion. Go green.

proceedings against Mohamed Harkat. He has been jailed and detained for 14
years on secret evidence, without being charged or given his right to open
trial. Deported to his native Algeria, he will certainly face torture and
death. Now is the time to raise awareness, pressure the new government and
stop the deportation. Come see The Secret Trial 5, an award-winning film by
Amar Wala and Noah Bingham documenting how Mohamed and 4 others have been
denied their legal and human rights in the name of state "security". The

justice in Canada? Furthermore, in an increasing climate of racism,

Rally: End race and class based profiling by the Toronto Police Service

Thur. Dec. 17

Toronto Police Headquarters, Dundas and Yonge

Toronto Police are doing Immigration's Dirty Work, #RefugeesWelcome. We have
evidence that Toronto Police calls Canada Border Services Agency 100 times
per week, that is more than police forces in Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa
combined. Four out of the five times these calls are made for people without
an immigration warrant! That means that Toronto Police look at witnesses or
victims of crime, or just every days residents that they stop and quiz for
no reason, and based on the colour of their skin, and their accent, call
Border Services to see if that person has immigration status or not. This is
racist policing at its worst. And it must stop. This collaboration between
Toronto Police and immigration enforcement means that racial profiling of
non-status people of colour can result in endless detentions or even
deportation to suffering, sometimes death.
