The unbearable lightness of Stéphane Dion
A look at the insipid foreign policy doctrine of Stéphane Dion, whose signature gave the go-ahead for the largest weapons deal in Canadian history, $15 billion worth of killer vehicles for the beheading regime of Saudi Arabia. A major protest is being planned in Ottawa at the CANSEC weapons bazaar May 24-25, where the Saudis will be among many international customers vying to purchase the latest from Canada's death merchants. Things will get underway in Ottawa on Tuesday, May 24 at 5 p.m. with a War Criminals Welcoming Walk that tours the hotels packing in CANSEC guests, to be followed by a 7:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. protest at the CANSEC gates on May 25. Details and more information are available from Homes not Bombs at tasc at web.ca.

This panel will explore the impact of national security law and policy from the perspectives of those racialized as “security threats,” focusing particularly on the overlapping experiences of Indigenous, Muslim, and Black communities. $5

Dance is a Weapon
Sat. May 7, 4 - 5 p.m.
Beit Zatoun, 612 Markham
Choreographer Pam Johnson, with dancer and co-creator Corrie Sakaluk, present a unique dance show called Dance Is A Weapon. It begins with a ‘revolutionary TedTalk’ delivered by Pam on the intertwined history of radical social and political movements of the 1930s and the development of contemporary dance. The second part is a dance solo, The Interview, based on Corrie’s true experience of being “randomly selected” for a “voluntary” interview by the Canadian Security Intelligence Services (CSIS) in the course of her former job as a flight attendant with Air Canada. The Interview depicts a woman who has embraced a mission to make the world a better place, only to find herself – and possibly her family – under threat of recrimination, as civil liberties in Canada continue to be eliminated eroded with contentious legislation such as Bill C51. $10
