Counting Sheep - Revolution is Coming
A Guerrilla Folk Opera
May 26 - June 5
296 Broadview
Counting Sheep is a deeply personal retelling of the Maidan in Ukraine, an immersive Ukrainian folk opera set to the sounds of beloved guerilla-folk party-punk band The Lemon Bucket Orkestra. It is January 2014. Mark Marczyk touches down in Kyiv and is quickly thrust into a nation on the eve of Revolution, a volatile whirlwind of tragedy mixed with hope, solidarity torn apart by brutal violence. Counting Sheep is a strikingly visceral exploration into the politics of revolution, beating with the heart of a people yearning for a better tomorrow. It is a stirring call-to-action, an affirmation of the human condition amidst a country in disrepair.

Grassy Narrows River Run 2016: Healthy river, healthy people
Thursday, June 2, noon
Queen's Park (College and University Ave)
In Spring of 2016 Grassy Narrows people will travel 1,700 km to Toronto to call on Premier Wynne to finally clean up the 9,000 kg of mercury that were dumped in our river in the 1960's. Join us as we demand justice for our people and protection for the waters and forests that give life. More than fifty years ago a paper mill in Dryden, Ontario began to dump murderous amounts of mercury into the Wabigoon River, upstream from the community of Asubpeechoseewagong (Grassy Narrows). This was one of many genocidal moments in the Canadian settler state's relationship with traditional Anishnaabe lands and people. The people of Grassy Narrows, and all the life that supports their traditional territories, have lived with the immense health effects of that crime ever since, with no responsibility taken on the part of the Ontario government that allowed that to happen. There is new evidence that mercury levels in some areas are rising, which continues to brutally impact the residents of Grassy Narrows, especially young children. The community is known for having sustained the longest running blockade of illegal logging in Canadian history, and is now demanding that Ontario clean up the mercury it allowed to be dumped years ago.

• A national climate plan that aligns with the science of climate change and ensures Canada meets its commitments to a 1.5°C world by keeping its fossil fuels reserves in the ground.
• A national plan that builds a 100% renewable energy economy by 2050, creating over a million clean, safe and rewarding jobs.
• A national plan that enshrines justice & reconciliation for Indigenous peoples, ensures no worker is left behind in the transition to a clean energy economy, and takes leadership from those hit hardest by the climate crisis.
