Sign my petition for 100% Renewable Ontario and a phase out of our 18 nuclear reactors

Conservation, made-in-ON green energy, and water power from Quebec could replace our 18 dangerous nuclear reactors at a fraction of the cost. The ON gov't is moving forward with rebuilding 10 reactors, locking us into high-cost nuclear for another 5 decades.

Mission Possible: Green Party of Canada platform

Excellent party platform, especially on the climate. They call for a doubling of our emission targets, a phase out of Canada's nuclear reactors, tarsands and fossil fuels, and a move to 100% renewable future by 2050. They propose to pay for the transition by raising corporate taxes.

Extinction Rebellion Toronto (XR)

The Climate Crisis needs Non-Violent Civil Disobedience (NVCD) . XR engages in weekly disruptions and blockades including Mobilize Mondays. Don't worry is you aren't ready for participating in the action; there are support roles and plenty else to do. Orientation meetings are held most Mondays which give a good overview of how XR is organized; discussions on XR demands and principles; and event/action planning.

Vote in NOW’s reader’s choice poll

Lyn Adamson, our fave feminist, peace and climate activist, has been nominated as best activist. I know of no one that is more committed and has worked as hard for as many years as her to raise alarm bells on the climate crisis.

For best activist campaign, Fridays for Future is the youth led campaign striking from school for climate action.

For best activist group, Climate Fast is taking a lead in climate activism in Toronto.

The Trudeau Formula: book launch

Thur. Sept. 12, 7 pm

Workers Action Centre, 720 Spadina Avenue, 2nd Fl

After a decade of Stephen Harper, the arrival of Justin Trudeau felt like a relief. But as Canadians reckon with the gulf between the dazzling promise of Trudeau’s election and the grim reality of his government, journalist Martin Lukacs makes the case that “real change” was never on the table. Drawing on investigative research and first-hand reporting, he reveals that behind the new wave of Trudeaumania was a slick status-quo political machine, backed by a cast of corporate elites and lobbyists who expected a pay-off from Liberal rule in Ottawa. Lukacs exposes a climate plan hatched in collaboration with Big Oil, the arming of a bloody Saudi war in Yemen, a reconciliation industry that has masked ongoing theft of Indigenous lands, and the sell-off of public infrastructure to private profiteers—a re-branded continuation, not a break, from Harper’s legacy.
