Every month this year, the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) will be holding a peace vigil outside the NATO Association of Canada headquarters in downtown Toronto (48 Yonge St. corner with Wellington St.). This year is the 70th anniversary of this male-dominated military alliance and Cold War relic that threatens our security with weapons and war. NATO puts intense pressure on the Canadian government to increase military spending and is preventing Canada from joining the UN Treaty to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons. VOW is calling for the Canadian government to withdraw from NATO and work through the United Nations on disarmament and the Sustainable Development Goals that will bring genuine human security. Human activity has now surpassed all other forces shaping our world. In an arresting new documentary from the producers of Racing Extinction, The Cove and Chasing Ice, environmental photographer James Balog captures the lives of people on the front lines of climate change. With rare compassion and heart, this film inspires us to re-evaluate our relationship with the natural world. The screening will open with a short video documenting the impact of development on the Beaver Lake Cree nation. Following the screening Lyn Adamson, co-chair of ClimateFast, will speak on climate activism at a crucial time. She will introduce the Kitchen Table Climate Conversation campaign, designed to bring our communities together to address our climate challenges with the knowledge and tools we need to make a difference. Join us for a peoples' history event recounting the radical story of Parkdale’s Catholic Worker Community. Founded in 1990, the former Toronto Catholic Worker community moved into Parkdale in 1993 where it remained until its dissolution in 2010. At its height, the community included about thirty people living in six households located at the bottom of Close Avenue. The Catholic Worker is an anarchist pacifist movement inspired by Catholic social teaching that envisions a grass-roots social revolution proceeding from individual and collective action for the common good; a new society built on the shell of the old where it is easier to be good.

You may know the science of how solar PV works, but do you know how it is installed on residences and commercial buildings? Come out to a half-day (4 hours), hands-on, informative workshop all about solar electricity generation and learn how these systems are installed. There is a lot more to it than just the solar panels! No prior experience is required from workshop participants. You will explore how solar PV generates electricity, learn about the various components and manufacturers of solar energy products, experience first-hand how a residential solar array is installed, and includes a tour of the 100 kW solar array located on the roof of the Horse Palace at the Exhibition Place. Participants must be between the ages of 18-29. Free.

You’ll hear from other young organizers, attend skills workshops and get the latest science directly from climate experts. Most importantly, you will learn strategies for empowering decision makers to stand with young people at this critical time in our history.
