The World
☢ Think fossil fuels are bad? Nuclear energy is even worse Some tout nuclear energy as ‘clean,’ but it’s hardly that, even with technological advancements

☢ Nuclear Industry's $23 Billion Bailout Request Shows Why It Should Have 'No Role to Play' in Solving Climate Crisis Nuclear has failed for over 50 years to control its costs, even with help from massive subsidies, and alternatives are available to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at a much lower cost and can be ramped up much faster.

☢ Bill Gates is wrong. Nuclear power will not save the climate. Beyond Chernobyl and Fukushima, there’s too much speaking against it

☢ Pinawa's toxic nuclear predicament hurts Lake Winnipeg The subcontracting consortium that is attempting to deal with defunct nuclear sites across the country is Canadian Nuclear Labs (CNL). It is funded by the federal government and is led by SNC-Lavalin, whose lobbying efforts of the federal government are renowned and include bribery and fraud charges, as well as illegal election financing.

☢ The delusion of thorium After 50 years and four failures, the US abandoned thorium reactors

Ontario

☢ Making the right choice for Pickering's Future The Pickering Nuclear Station is one of the world’s oldest and largest. Located in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), it is surrounded by 2.2 million people (within 30 km). Fortunately, it will be shutdown in 2024, allowing revitalization of the waterfront.

☢ What will become of the land where Pickering Nuclear Station stands? We're calling for immediate dismantling in 2024 after shutdown. OPG, however, plans to let the station sit idle for 30 years before dismantling.

☢ Uranium processing plant in Toronto's west end applies for 10-year licence renewal The plant at Landsowne and Dupont which processes 53% of all the nuclear fuel used in Canada's nuclear reactors, releases uranium into the air and water. They've applied for a 10-year extension despite concerns from the community.

☢ Fraser Institute is not telling the truth The Fraser Institute claims that renewable energy is the single largest cause of Ontario’s rising electricity rates. This is simply not true. Rather, nuclear power is the single largest cause of our rising electricity rates, responsible for 45% of the rise in the price of electricity generation. Wind and solar generators are responsible for 15% and 13% respectively.

☢ As the Ford government flails away at cutting electricity costs, its new plan is to have a consultant review existing electricity generation contracts – with the exception of the ones that are at the heart of rising electricity rates – the multi-billion dollar nuclear rebuild projects.

☢ Doug Ford government spent $231M to scrap green energy projects PCs had said cancelling wind turbine project in Prince Edward County would not cost taxpayers

Renewables and Conservation
☼ Renewable Energy Is Now The Cheapest Option - Even Without Subsidies

☼ Wind power could meet entire world’s electricity needs 18 times over, says International Energy Agency Bigger turbines, floating platforms, cheapening technology and green policies – these are all plotting the course for a wind revolution. More here.

☼ Fukushima Starts $2.7 Billion Renewables Project Work is set to begin on a $2.7 billion wind and solar project in Japan’s Fukushima, the site of one of the world’s worst nuclear disasters. The project aims to help revive the region’s economy by generating energy in mountainous areas and on farmland that became unusable after the 2011 triple meltdown.

☼ Seoul is putting solar panels on all public buildings and 1 million homes

Take Action
☢ Order your FREE leaflets here calling on the Ford Government to Cut the Cuts and invest in water power from Quebec rather than rebuilding 10 nuclear reactors. If you can spare a few hours to leaflet your neighbourhood mailboxes, let me know. (angela at cleanairalliance.org)

☢ Please sign our petitions to CutTheCuts and move to 100%RenewableOntario and share them with your friends.

☢ Stop OPG's Nuclear Waste Dump Before It's Too Late Learn more about OPG’s nuke waste dump proposal in Kincardine, ON, and write Minister McKenna, Premier Ford and PM Trudeau here.

☢ Order your free KI (anti-thyroid-cancer) pills here if you live within 50 km of an ON nuclear facility - that includes all of Toronto and beyond. Download your anti-thyroid cancer posters here to post in your office, school, or local cafe.
