What is COP28?

>From November 30 – December 12, 2023, the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) is being held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. COP28 is the latest Conference of the Parties (COP), the group of nations that forged the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1992. The Conference of the Parties (COP) meets annually to discuss ways to address the global climate crisis.

Global 100 Renewable Energy Declaration – released at COP28

A world fully supplied by renewable sources of energy, like wind, solar, and other sustainable renewable energy sources is not only environmentally and socially desirable: it is already technically and economically feasible. The potential for clean renewables is vast, far exceeding the current and projected global energy demand. Technologies are readily available, they are more affordable – without subsidies – safer, and suitable for decentralised systems that empower local communities. Technologies such as nuclear energy and CCS are not needed, and neither is the large expansion of solid biomass use.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights turns 75

Sun. Dec. 10, 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of one of the world's most groundbreaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This landmark document enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. The Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 and sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.
